ION Video has released a new patent that extends and hardens its Virtual Video IP portfolio, creating a control and transaction layer on top of the existing virtualisation architecture so that dynamic, AI‑assembled video can be governed, monetised and kept secure in real time. The original patents established how rendered video could be broken into addressable samples and reassembled without re‑rendering; the new patent defines how access to those samples is authorised and commercialised through a cryptographically validated “Video Token” and a secure “content wallet” execution environment.​

In practical terms, the patent covers a token‑governed layer that checks who is requesting a Virtual Video, what rights and licence terms apply, whether user consent and territorial conditions are satisfied, and on which device and session the content can be played, with assembly only occurring when all conditions validate at the exact moment of execution. This same control layer simultaneously enables three commercial pillars: content sovereignty (content never leaving the owner’s environment, with only authorised samples resolving), real‑time compliance (consent and rights enforced at the sample level, not just at login), and a programmable transaction layer (scene‑level billing, royalties and attribution triggered by each resolution event).​

The update positions ION as the missing infrastructure layer for “agentic content”, the emerging phase where AI agents autonomously assemble personalised video experiences across sources, not just complete transactions, and argues that any compliant, commercially viable AI‑assembled video at scale will require exactly the kind of control layer described in the patent. With the new patent already registered in Australia, the US and other key jurisdictions, management states that ION now holds an effective dominant IP position over the Virtual Video marketplace for the next 20 years, as any deployment that needs access control, rights management or transactability for Virtual Video falls within the expanded IP.
