ION has filed its fourth foundational patent, securing technology that proves video is real and human-created at the binary sample level.

ION Video Limited has received confirmation from IP Australia of the filing of its fourth foundational patent, Application No. 2026904970, titled System and Method for Policy-Gated Authentication and Cryptographic Hashing. Known internally as the Right to Identify References, the patent protects technology that verifies whether a piece of video is genuine, human-created content rather than AI-generated.

What makes the invention different is where it works. Instead of analysing the pixels on screen or relying on metadata that can be stripped away, it authenticates video at the level of the individual binary samples, the actual encoded data inside the file, and locks that proof into an immutable registry. Because the protection is cryptographic, it does not weaken as generative AI improves, and it survives common changes like re-encoding and compression. The system can also unify many existing trust signals, such as C2PA credentials, camera sensor fingerprinting, codec forensics and AI detectors, under a single configurable policy.

This filing completes ION's four-family patent architecture, which spans four functions: virtualise, record, govern and authenticate. Together the four families form an end-to-end stack covering the full lifecycle of video, from container, to record, to governed assembly, to verified identity. The filing also establishes ION's priority date and strengthens the Company's position as it progresses its broader portfolio toward international protection.
