ION Video Appoints Ceri Thomas to Advisory Board
ION Video Limited (ASX: IOV) has appointed Ceri Thomas to its Advisory Board, adding one of the most experienced figures in immersive audio adoption to the team guiding ION's commercialisation.
Ceri's career sits at the very centre of how new media formats go from invention to global standard. After 15 years in the UK film and post-production industry, he was recruited by Dolby Laboratories in 2015, where his work on Dolby's virtual reality audio program led directly to the release of the Dolby Atmos Production Suite. He went on to drive the global adoption of Dolby Atmos across film, television and music, working hands on with the engineers, studios and record labels that took Atmos from a new technology to the industry standard in music production, from delivery standards to studio design to production workflows.
In 2022, Apple recruited him as Senior Production Systems Engineer for Spatial Audio, where he spent three years building the production engineering, quality control and workflows behind Apple Music's Spatial Audio, the format now heard by hundreds of millions of listeners. Today he advises Apple and Nvidia through his independent practice, IMMERSV.
Few people anywhere have done what Ceri has done twice: taken a transformative media format from the lab into worldwide adoption, first at Dolby and then at Apple. That is precisely the journey ION is on with virtual video, and precisely the experience the Advisory Board now gains.
Ceri joins the four previously appointed Advisory Board members, with a summary of the material terms of the Advisory Board arrangements set out in Annexure A of the announcement.
Anthony Baker, CEO of ION Video, said: "We welcome Ceri to ION's Advisory Board. His track record in the adoption of immersive audio formats at Dolby and Apple Music brings directly relevant industry perspective as ION continues its commercialisation activities."
