Board and management changes, and a sixth patent application

ION has today announced a series of Board and management changes, alongside details of its first hardware patent application.

Key points

• Dominic O'Hanlon and Clark Kirby appointed as Non Executive Directors. Dominic brings more than thirty years in high growth technology, including leading rhipe through its A$408 million sale to Crayon. Clark is Chief Executive Officer of Village Roadshow Group, with significant operating experience and strong US banking and strategic relationships. He has elected to take his director fees in equity, subject to shareholder approval.

• Anthony Baker appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, continuing to lead corporate strategy, commercial execution and shareholder engagement.

• Finbar O'Hanlon steps down as a Director to concentrate fully on technology innovation, product development and commercialisation as Founder and Head of Innovation. Since he rejoined the Company late last year, ION's portfolio has expanded from two granted patent families to six.

• ION's first hardware patent application, System and Method for Accelerated Virtual Video Resolution, is proposed as the sixth family in the estate. It describes a chip architecture that performs rights validation, authenticity verification, content classification and real time video assembly directly in hardware, designed to prevent video output unless those requirements are satisfied.

• A deeper update on the full patent estate and the new application will be released on Wednesday 19 August.

Why it matters

Video is the internet's heaviest workload, and the work of resolving, verifying and governing it happens millions of times over. Purpose built silicon performs that work faster and at a fraction of the power, which is why the world's largest technology companies are building custom chips for their own workloads. This application extends ION's protection from the ideas behind its architecture into the physical hardware through which those functions could ultimately be performed.

All four 2026 applications remain subject to examination. There is no assurance that patents will be granted, or that the final scope of any granted claims will correspond with the applications as filed.
